The ABA project launched in September 2003, below lists the revision history for http://www.brain-map.org

December 14, 2006

  • Initial release of the Fine Structure Annotation Lists. More information regarding how the Annotation was performed as well as the gene lists, go to the Atlas at http://www.brain-map.org and select Fine Structure Annotation.
  • Six additional structures were added to the existing eleven structures under Anatomic Search. These structures include the division of the Hippocampal Formation into Hippocampal Region and Retrohippocampal Region, the division of the Striatum into Striatum Dorsal region, Striatum Ventral region, Lateral Septal Complex, and Striatum-Like amygdalar nuclei.
  • General improvements to the Brain Explorer were made including threshold control, performance improvements to the clipping panes, and additional Anatomic Search structures.

September 21, 2006 Release

July 13, 2006 Release

  • Application Redesign:  improved the User Interface based on user's feedback as well as feedback from a comprehensive usability testing.  Notable modifications were made to the Home Page, search results screen, and the thumbnail view screen.  Let us know what you think.
  • Data Release:  completed the survey of more than 20,000 genes.  In addition, 20% of the data contains detailed data in the Coronal plane.
  • Enhancement to the Allen Reference Atlas (ARA):   added a Coronal Nissl View.  Quality of the annotated images for the Sagittal Reference Atlases were improved with the addition of structures.  The Sagittal ARA now has 300 structures annotated.  Stereotaxic grids were added to both the Coronal and Sagittal ARA's.
  • Initial Public release of the 3-D Brain Explorer:  this is a client application allowing viewing 3D representation of gene expression data in the ABA.  The Brain Explorer is available for both Microsoft Windows and Mac users.  Go to the download page600 for system requirements and application installation.

March 30, 2006

  • Data Release:   added ~6000 genes to the database. Total genes in the database is now at ~18,000.
  • Nissl images are added to the database for certain data sets. To view the closest Nissl for a particular ISH image, go to FAQ:Where are the Nissl anatomical sections? for detailed instructions.

October 20, 2005

  • Data Release:   added ~6000 genes to the database. Total genes in the database is now at ~12,000.
  • Anatomic Search: the entire ABA data set has been recalculated through the automated pipeline to detect gene expression level and density. For more information on our automated pipeline, refer to the Informatics Data Processing1200 for more information on our methodology.
  • Enhancement to the Allen Reference Atlas (ARA): additional structures have been added to the Coronal ARA. There are now 300 structures annotated.

June 3, 2005

  • Data Release:   added ~2500 genes to the database. Total genes in the database is now at ~6,000.
  • Release of the Sagittal Allen Reference Atlas: 40 structures have been annotated and now available.

March 10, 2005

  • Data Release:   added ~1500 genes to the database. Total genes in the database is now at ~3,500.

December 8, 2004

  • Initial public release of http://www.brain-map.org with ~2000 genes
  • Initial public release of the Coronal Allen Reference Atlas with 100 structures
