A flurry of exciting reports are available in Biorxiv from researchers working on characterizing cell types in the brain. [Transcriptomic evidence for dense peptidergic neuromodulation networks in mouse cortex](https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/519694v1), [Prospective, brain-wide labeling of neuronal subclasses with enhancer-driven AAVs](https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/525014v2) and [Epigenetic landscape and AAV targeting of human neocortical cell classes](https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/555318v1) all use standardized methods for single cell profiling combined with targeted analysis based on properties of individual neurons. Exciting findings!

Great [new paper now available in Nature Neuroscience](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41593-019-0417-0) by Gouwens, Sorensen, Berg et al: **Classification of electrophysiological and morphological neuron types in the mouse visual cortex**. This paper distills much of the information that is in the [Allen Cell Types Database](http://celltypes.brain-map.org/), and describes categories of morphoelectric cell types in the mouse brain. Figure 7 shows a nice correlation of the morphoelectric data with the transcriptomic cell type categories.
