Preprints out for transcriptional and epigenomic profiling of mouse and human neurons

A flurry of exciting reports are available in Biorxiv from researchers working on characterizing cell types in the brain. Transcriptomic evidence for dense peptidergic neuromodulation networks in mouse cortex, Prospective, brain-wide labeling of neuronal subclasses with enhancer-driven AAVs and Epigenetic landscape and AAV targeting of human neocortical cell classes all use standardized methods for single cell profiling combined with targeted analysis based on properties of individual neurons. Exciting findings!

Great new paper now available in Nature Neuroscience by Gouwens, Sorensen, Berg et al: Classification of electrophysiological and morphological neuron types in the mouse visual cortex. This paper distills much of the information that is in the Allen Cell Types Database, and describes categories of morphoelectric cell types in the mouse brain. Figure 7 shows a nice correlation of the morphoelectric data with the transcriptomic cell type categories.
