With this release, marker gene annotations for the Whole Mouse Brain taxonomy (Yao et al.) and the Whole Human Brain taxonomy (Siletti et al.) are available in ABC Atlas Cell Type Cards.
Cell Type Cards now display the marker gene sets that help define the cell type. When viewing a Cell Type Card a new Marker Genes tab is now available. For supported cell types, clicking the Marker Genes tab displays one or more sets of marker genes that help distinguish the cell type from its neighbors.
.
To learn more about a set of marker genes, hover the cursor over the (i) to the left of the marker gene set name.
Note: Clicking the Marker Genes tab sometimes displays the message, “No marker genes found for this cell type.” This indicates that marker genes are either undefined or unavailable for that cell type. This is especially common for the top levels of some taxonomies. In this case, selecting a lower level cell type may yield better results.
Note: The genes referenced in the Cell Type Card were those used in the creation of the taxonomy and may not be available to visualize in the data set currently being explored.
