Thank You for Making Cross-Border Neuroscience Possible with the Allen Brain Cell Atlas

Dear Allen Institute team and everyone involved in the Allen Brain Cell Atlas

I am a researcher at the University of Fukui in Japan, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the development and public release of the Allen Brain Cell Atlas.

I am currently working toward a manuscript based entirely on computational analyses of ABC Atlas data, without generating new experimental data. My main interest is the ventral striatum, particularly the olfactory tubercle. The richness and spatial resolution of the dataset make it exceptionally rewarding to analyze, and it has allowed us to discover far more about the cellular organization and gene-expression patterns of this region than we initially expected.

I am deeply grateful to everyone involved in this enormous project, including those responsible for animal care, tissue preparation, data acquisition, imaging, computational processing, annotation, software development, data curation, and public access.

It is remarkable and exciting that researchers in Japan can now conduct research and prepare a scientific paper using data generated by an institute in the United States. To me, this represents one of the most meaningful possibilities created by open science and international data sharing.

The ABC Atlas is greatly accelerating computational research into gene expression in neuroscience. I have also introduced the resource to other members of our laboratory, and the number of researchers around me who use it is gradually increasing.

Thank you again for creating and sharing such an extraordinary scientific resource. Your work is enabling new discoveries far beyond the Allen Institute and across national borders.

Dear @Sora

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It is so wonderful to hear how our Allen Institute open resources are helping you advance the field with new discoveries. It is our goal to make our tools and data as accessible as possible to scientists like yourself, worldwide. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make them even better for you!

It’s a long story, so I can’t share all of it here, but the ABC Atlas has irreversibly changed my life for the better. I am deeply grateful.
