Mouse Durotomy Surgery Tool

Hi there,

I normally perform a craniotomy 5 days prior to Neuropixels probe insertion (to allow for 5 days post-surgery recovery) but I still see dura regrowth. So my question is: what surgery tool do you use for a durotomy only?

Thanks in advance!

Hi! We use a bent syringe tip or a micro probe (FST Part #10032-13) to make a slit in the dura, and Vanna scissors (WPI-500260) to remove it. It’s very important to keep the dura submerged in ACSF throughout the entire procedure, so it doesn’t adhere to the brain surface.

More details of this procedure can be found in this paper.
